| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Tsar on horseback, shown in right-facing profile, wielding a spear or lance downward toward a prostrate figure or serpent beneath the horse's hooves, in the traditional manner of the mounted warrior type inherited from earlier Muscovite coinage. The design is rendered in bold, somewhat schematic relief characteristic of hammered wire-money technique, with the flan's irregular oval outline cutting across portions of the design. The horse and rider occupy the majority of the field, with abbreviated Cyrillic date characters partially visible in the lower portion of the flan. The overall composition follows the long-established Russian chekha tradition, with no border or legend frame due to the nature of the wire-money planchet. |
