The design follows the long-established Russian kopeck tradition derived from the image of St. George and the Dragon, rendered in a highly stylised, low-relief manner characteristic of hammer-struck wire coinage. The irregular flan, formed from a thin strip of silver wire, imparts a markedly oval and uneven outline to the planchet.
