Obverse description Mounted horseman, identified as the Tsar, riding a galloping horse to the right, brandishing a spear in the characteristic Russian wire money tradition. The figure is rendered in a schematic, medieval style typical of scale coin (cheshuyка) production. Cyrillic letters denoting the date in Church Slavonic numeral notation appear beneath the horse's hooves. The flan is irregular in shape, consistent with the wire-cut hammered technique of the period.
