| Obverse description | Obverse of this wire kopeck depicts a mounted horseman (the traditional 'Rider' or Kopek device) shown in right profile, seated on a horse and wielding a lance or spear diagonally across the field. The figure wears armour and a crested helmet, consistent with the conventional representation of the Tsar as warrior-sovereign inherited from earlier Muscovite coinage. The design is struck on an irregular, lenticular flan typical of wire money (chekhi), with the relief partially flat due to the hand-hammered technique. No inscriptions appear on this side, the entire field being occupied by the equestrian motif. |
