Obverse description Central design depicting a crowned equestrian figure of the Tsar, shown in right-facing profile, mounted on a horse and brandishing a lance or spear — a traditional motif inherited from Muscovite coinage representing the sovereign as warrior-prince. The flan is characteristically irregular in outline, being struck from a flattened silver wire blank by the traditional chekanka (wire money) technique. A beaded border is partially visible along the right margin of the flan. The relief is bold but unevenly distributed owing to the hand-hammered production method.
