| Reverse description | The reverse bears a four-line Cyrillic inscription filling the entire field of the irregular oval flan, reading ЦАРЬ / ВЕЛИКИЙ / КНЯЗЬ ИВА / Н ВСЕЯ (Tsar and Grand Prince Ivan of all Rus'). The lettering is rendered in a bold early Cyrillic hand typical of Muscovite wire coinage of the sixteenth century, with characters of varying size adapted to the irregular surface of the hammered planchet. There is no decorative border or exergue; the inscription alone constitutes the reverse design. Minor die-shift and surface irregularity are consistent with the hand-struck wire-money production method. |
