| Reverse description | The reverse bears a multi-line Cyrillic inscription filling the entire field of the irregularly shaped flan, a hallmark of Russian wire kopecks of the sixteenth century. The legend reads in abbreviated form: Царь и Великий Князь Иван всея Руси (Tsar and Grand Prince Ivan of all Rus'), arranged across four or five lines in bold, archaic Cyrillic characters. The lettering is deeply impressed into the silver flan with characteristic uneven spacing and partial truncation at the edges due to the small, irregular planchet. No border or decorative frame is present, consistent with hammered wire money of this type. |
