Taj al-Din Yildiz was a Turkic slave-general who inherited Ghazna from the Ghurid sultan Mu'izz al-Din after the latter's assassination in 1206, ruling a shrinking domain under constant pressure from the expanding Khwarazmian empire to the west. He was decisively defeated by Ala ad-Din Muhammad of Khwarezm at Ghazna in 1215, effectively ending Ghurid control of the region entirely. Kurraman, a secondary mint in this network, struck jitals through these final turbulent years of the dynasty's Afghan heartland.
