Reverse description Reverse bearing a three-line Arabic inscription arranged across the field within a plain border, presenting the royal titulature of Sultan 'Ala al-Din Muhammad II. The legend reads 'al-Sultan al-A'zam / 'Ala' al-Dunya wa'l-Din / Muhammad', proclaiming him 'the Greatest Sultan, Splendour of the World and of the Faith, Muhammad'. The script is executed in a cursive Naskhi style typical of eastern Islamic coinage of the early 13th century, with individual letterforms somewhat compressed to fit the small flan. The surrounding field is plain, and the coin's irregular edge reflects the hammered production technique.
