Obverse description Laureate bust of Napoleon I facing right in high relief, wearing a laurel wreath with ribbon ties, occupying the central field of the octagonal flan. The surrounding legend reads NAPOLEON EMP. ET ROI., and the engraver's signature TIOLIER F. appears in the lower exergue beneath the truncation.

Reverse description Central device depicts a table with lion-headed legs, upon which rest an inkwell with quill, a scroll, and a lamp; a hand emerging from clouds at upper right holds a writing quill. In the lower field, a balance of justice and a caduceus lie on a stepped platform. The Latin motto arcs around the upper field, and the issuer inscription appears in three lines across the lower portion of the flan.
