| Beschrijving voorzijde | Reverse of the host Polish thaler of Sigismund III, displaying a large crowned quartered royal arms encompassing the heraldic charges of Poland, Lithuania, Sweden, and the Vasa dynasty sheaf, flanked by two rampant supporters and the date divided across the lower field. A continuous Latin legend encircles the arms within an inner beaded border and an outer milled rim, reading the royal titulature of Sigismund III as King of Poland and Sweden. Two Russian countermarks applied in 1655 are struck onto the coin: a rectangular cartouche bearing the date '1655' and a small oval stamp depicting a mounted horseman bearing a spear, both serving as the fiscal authorisation marks of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. The overall strike of the host coin is crisp and well-centered, consistent with a West European milled thaler of the early seventeenth century. |
