| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the host coin's design: the armorial shield of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, quartered and surmounted by a wildman supporter, set within an ornate cartouche in the lower field. The surrounding Latin legend reads HENRIC DVX BRUNSVIC ET LVN (Heinrich, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg), partially visible around the periphery. Two Russian countermarks applied in 1655 by order of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich are struck upon the field: a rectangular cartouche bearing the date '1655' and a small oval cartouche depicting an equestrian figure — the Tsar on horseback brandishing a spear — serving as the official authentication marks that converted this Western taler into a Jefimok rouble for circulation within Muscovy. |
