Obverse description Obverse of the host coin: armored bust of Duke Heinrich Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, wearing a ruffled collar and mantle, with the date 1593 divided across the field. The peripheral legend in Latin reads HENR VL D G PC ST EPS HALE D BRVNE LVN. Superimposed upon the bust is the Russian countermark of 1655, comprising a rectangular cartouche stamp bearing the date '1655' and a second oval cartouche depicting the mounted figure of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, applied by the Moscow Mint to validate the taler as currency within the Russian Empire.
