| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Marcus Aurelius facing right, with a short beard rendered in fine curls characteristic of his mature portraiture. The emperor's effigy is executed in high relief, displaying detailed drapery folds over the right shoulder and the overlapping scales of the cuirass. The circular Greek legend ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝοϹ runs around the periphery, identifying the emperor as Antoninus Caesar. The field is flat with a light green-brown patina, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
