| Obverse description | Facing head of the nymph Arethusa rendered in archaic three-quarter view, her hair dressed with an ampyx and bound in a sphendone, loose locks falling to either side. Four X-shaped symbols (denoting the hexas denomination) are distributed in the field around the effigy. The design is contained within a circular incuse line border, characteristic of Syracusan small bronze coinage of the Second Democracy period. |
