| Beschrijving keerzijde | A cross potent on a globus set upon a two-stepped base occupies the central field, with the letter B visible to the right of the shaft on specimens of the second variety. The entire design is framed by a continuous circular Latin legend reading DEUS ADIUTA ROMANIS, an invocatory phrase meaning 'God help the Romans,' rendered in the characteristic uncial letterforms of seventh-century Byzantine epigraphy. The field is otherwise plain, giving prominence to the devotional cross motif as the primary reverse type of this silver hexagram series. |
