Obverse description Bareheaded, armored bust of Henri II facing right, depicted in the third portrait type, wearing a cuirass with elaborate ridged pauldrons and a ruffled collar; the effigy occupies the majority of the field. The royal title legend in Latin runs clockwise around the periphery, punctuated by rosette stops. The portrait reflects the Renaissance court style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century French royal coinage.
Obverse script Latin
