| Aanvullende informatie |
Pumiathon was the last king of Kition, the Phoenician city-state on Cyprus, ruling until the Ptolemaic conquest of the island in 312 BC — the terminus date on this issue. He navigated decades of shifting Cypriote politics, initially backing the Persians against Alexander and paying for that loyalty when Ptolemy moved to consolidate control over the island. His execution followed the city's fall.
Gold issues from Kition are considerably rarer than the city's silver output, which dominated regional exchange.
