Struck at Pella in the opening years of Alexander's reign, this hemistater belongs to a transitional series issued under Alexander's name but continuing the coinage type established by his father Philip II — a deliberate act of monetary continuity designed to maintain confidence during the transfer of power following Philip's assassination in 336 BC.
