| Obverse description | Standing male figure, identified as King Diomedes, depicted facing in the central field of this irregularly shaped square copper flan. The figure appears helmeted or diademed and clad in military dress, rendered in the schematic Indo-Greek style characteristic of late Baktrian bronze coinage. A Greek legend borders the design on three sides, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΩΤΗΡ ΔΙΟΜΗΔΟΥ, proclaiming the king's royal epithet 'Soter' (Saviour). The die engraving is typical of the period's provincial workshop production, with boldly incised but somewhat crude relief. |
