| Obverse description | Anchor depicted inverted, with the shank oriented downward and the stock at top, rendered in raised relief against a plain field. The Greek letter alpha (A) appears to the left within the upper field, serving as the initial of the city ethnicon. The anchor flukes are clearly articulated at the lower extremity, characteristic of the archaic coinage of Apollonia Pontika. The design is boldly struck on an irregular flan typical of early Greek silver issues. |
