Larissa's late fifth-century fractional silver reflects the city's position as the dominant polis of Thessaly during a period when the Aleuadae family controlled its political apparatus. These tiny fractions served real commercial needs in a region whose economy ran heavily on horse-breeding and grain — transactions that required denominations well below the obol.
The HGC 4, 513 attribution places this among a tightly clustered group with limited die variety documentation. BCD Thessaly II 145 reflects the Colin Pitchfork collection's systematic die-linking work, still the most rigorous analysis of Larissaean fractions published.
