Reverse description A large archaic Greek capital alpha (Α) occupies the central field, enclosed within a border of pellets forming a dotted circle, itself set within a shallow incuse circle. The alpha is rendered with a slightly open crossbar and exhibits the broad, bold proportions characteristic of Elean script of the period. The incuse square treatment and pelleted border are diagnostic features of Olympian sanctuary coinage struck during the 91st to 94th Olympiads.
