| Obverse description | Forepart of a roaring lion facing left in high relief, rendered in the archaic Greek style characteristic of Western Anatolian coinage of the late sixth and early fifth centuries BC. The mane is summarily indicated by short incised striations radiating from the neck, while the open jaws expose the teeth in a fierce snarl. The eye is rendered as a prominent raised boss. The design fills the small flan, with the surface showing the characteristic granular texture of archaic electrum and silver small denomination coinage. |
