| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a quadripartite incuse square, deeply impressed into the flan by the punch of the anvil die, dividing the surface into four roughly equal recessed compartments. The incuse is irregular in outline, reflecting the hand-struck technique of the period, with raised ridges forming the dividing lines between the quadrants. The surface within each quadrant is uneven and granular, consistent with archaic hammered coinage from Asia Minor. No legend, symbol, or subsidiary device is present within the incuse. This type of reverse is characteristic of early Greek coinage from Kyzikos and other Ionian mints of the sixth century BC. |
