Reverse description A horse standing or prancing to the right, depicted in a lively, stylized manner characteristic of Thessalian coinage, which celebrated the region's renowned equestrian culture. Above the horse appears a small radiate or turreted crown symbol. Below and to the right of the horse, the partial ethnic inscription ΦΕ is inscribed in Greek characters, identifying the issuing city of Pherai. The composition fills the compact flan with confident, if somewhat crude, die engraving appropriate to this small denomination.
