| Obverse description | Bare youthful head of Apollo facing right, with flowing long hair rendered in thick, rope-like locks falling behind the neck. The facial features are rendered in a naturalistic Hellenistic style, with a well-defined jaw and smooth cheek. The hair is arranged in voluminous strands characteristic of Carian civic coinage of this period. No legend appears in the field. |

Keramos was a minor Carian city whose civic coinage is poorly documented and rarely surfaces in collections. This hemidrachm belongs to a series issued under the magistrate name Polites, one of several eponymous officials attested on Keramos silver from the period following Rome's reorganization of the region after Pydna in 168 BC. The city lay inland from the Ceramic Gulf — from which it took its name — and its output was modest enough that individual magistrate issues are known from only handfuls of specimens across major collections.
