Obverse description Radiate head of Helios in three-quarter facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic wavy locks framing the face and divergent sun rays projecting from the crown of the head. The deity's youthful, idealized features display the refined Hellenistic artistic style characteristic of Rhodian coinage. The broad, flan-filling effigy commands the entire obverse field, leaving no room for legend or additional devices. The naturalistic modeling of the facial features and hair reflects the accomplished die-cutting tradition of the Rhodian mint during the late Hellenistic period.
