Megara's membership in the Achaean League during this period was politically precarious. The city occupied a geographic hinge between the Peloponnese and Attica, and its allegiances shifted more than once under pressure from Macedon, Rome, and the League itself. These hemidrachms were struck during the final years before Rome's crushing victory at Pydna in 168 BC effectively ended Macedonian power and forced a fundamental reorganization of Greek political arrangements — Achaean League coinage from after that date looks markedly different in its administrative character. BCD 27.1 represents a tight die linkage within the Megara series, suggesting a short, concentrated minting episode rather than sustained civic production.
