| Obverse description | Forepart of a lion depicted in high relief, facing right with its head dramatically turned back to the left, mouth open in a roar revealing teeth. The mane is rendered with bold, stylized striations radiating around the head, conveying a sense of wild energy characteristic of Thracian Chersonesos coinage. The forelegs are extended forward, with the truncation of the body visible at the lower right of the flan. The design fills the irregular, somewhat broad flan typical of this series. |
