The Achaean League's hemidrachm issues from this final decade represent the confederation at its most politically precarious. Rome had been intervening in Greek affairs with increasing directness since Cynoscephalae in 197 BC, and by the 160s the League's autonomy was effectively conditional on Roman approval. The series ended abruptly in 146 BC when Lucius Mummius sacked Corinth, dissolved the League entirely, and absorbed Greece into the Roman provincial system — making these among the last coins struck under genuinely independent Greek federal authority in the Peloponnese.
