| Obverse description | Pomegranate depicted in high relief at center of field, rendered with characteristic ovoid body and ribbed surface, with small calyx and vestigial stem visible at base. The fruit is shown frontally, its naturalistic form serving as the principal civic emblem of Melos, a visual pun on the island's name. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, with no surrounding legend or additional devices. The die engraving is bold and confident, consistent with 4th-century Cycladic mint practice. |
