| Beschrijving keerzijde | Facing gorgoneion set within a shallow incuse square, struck by the hammer technique typical of early Greek coinage. The apotropaic visage is depicted frontally with wide staring eyes, a broad flat nose, and an open mouth with protruding tongue, flanked by coiling serpents whose bodies curl outward into the corners of the incuse field. Above the head, vestigial hair or a crown is indicated in low relief. The entire composition fills the incuse square in the bold, schematic style characteristic of late Archaic Ionian die-cutting. |
