| Obverse description | Facing head of a cow or bull rendered in archaic style, depicted frontally at center of the flan with prominent bulging eyes and rounded muzzle. The head is shown in low relief with a broad, flat face characteristic of early Archaic Greek coinage from Korkyra. The surrounding field is plain and unlettered, consistent with the pre-epigraphic coinage of the island. The rendering is schematic yet vital, exhibiting the bold plastic quality typical of northwestern Greek die engraving of the late 6th century BC. |

| Additional information |
Korkyra — modern Corfu — was among the earliest Greek colonies to strike its own coinage, having established a mint by the late sixth century BC. The island's wealth derived almost entirely from its position astride the Adriatic trading routes, and its monetary output reflects that mercantile orientation: small, silver, and built for practical exchange rather than civic display. HGC 6#42 is among the earliest fractions attributable to the Korkyran series.
