Patrai, a port city on the southern shore of the Gulf of Corinth, was undergoing significant political transformation in the 30s BC as Augustus — still Octavian at this date — consolidated control over Greece following Actium in 31 BC. The city would soon be refounded as the Roman colony Colonia Augusta Aroe Patrensis, likely around 14 BC, making issues from this transitional decade among the last struck under the old civic identity.
