Parion, a Greek colony on the Propontis founded by Miletus and Erythrae, maintained its own silver coinage long after many neighboring cities had ceded monetary autonomy to Macedonian authority. This hemidrachm falls squarely within the period of Philip II's expanding influence across the Hellespont corridor — yet Parion continued striking independently, likely sustained by its position controlling critical Propontine trade routes between the Aegean and the Black Sea.
The Lockett 2713 reference places this piece within the famous R.C. Lockett collection, dispersed by Glendining's across four sales between 1955 and 1961.
