| Beschrijving keerzijde | A full-face Gorgoneion occupies the entire reverse field, rendered in the late classical style with considerable plasticity and refined detail. The apotropaic visage displays prominent staring eyes, a broad flat nose, and a subtly open mouth with a protruding tongue, here restrained compared to archaic precedents, reflecting the transitional artistic conventions of the mid-4th century BC. The coiling snakes of the Gorgon's hair frame the face and extend into the surrounding field, their sinuous bodies entwining around the periphery of the flan. No legend accompanies the design, the Gorgoneion serving alone as the city's emblematic reverse type. |
