Obverse description Head of Athena facing right, wearing a Attic helmet adorned with a raised crest and a decorative cheek guard. The goddess's hair falls in short wavy locks beneath the helmet, and her facial features are rendered with archaic naturalism characteristic of Thessalian coinage of the mid-fifth century BC. The neck is visible below, with fine engraving detail along the nape.

Reverse description Forepart of a horse facing right, rendered in bold relief with a finely detailed mane depicted by incised striations along the neck and crest. The horse's head is turned slightly, with a well-modelled eye and flared nostril. The ethnic legend Φ-Α-Ρ-Σ, an abbreviation for Pharsalos, is distributed in the field around the horse forepart, with Φ at upper left, Α at lower left, Ρ at lower right, and Σ at upper right.
