Obverse description Facing gorgoneion rendered in fine archaic style, occupying the entire field. The grotesque visage displays wide staring eyes, a broad flat nose, and an open mouth with visible teeth and a prominent protruding tongue. The head is encircled by writhing serpentine locks rendered with careful detail, giving the apotropaic mask its characteristic ferocious aspect.
