| Reverse description | Head of the nymph Rhodos in profile facing right, rendered in fine archaic style with hair drawn back, set within a square incuse punch. The ethnic inscription ΡΟΔΙ is distributed in the four corners of the incuse square, with individual letters Ρ, Ο, Δ, and Ι positioned respectively in each quadrant surrounding the central effigy. The incuse square technique is characteristic of early Rhodian silver coinage of the Chian-Rhodian weight standard. The nymph's features are delicately rendered, consistent with the high artistic quality of early fourth-century BC Rhodian die-cutting. |
