Obverse description Laureate and bearded head of the river-god Amenanos facing left, rendered in high relief with finely engraved flowing locks and a full beard rendered in parallel striated lines. The deity wears a wreath of reeds or grain, befitting his nature as a personification of the local Katanean river. A dotted border frames the composition along the coin's periphery. The engraving displays the accomplished late Classical Sicilian style, combining naturalistic musculature with stylized treatment of the hair.
