| Obverse description | Draped bust of the nymph Chalkis, eponymous deity of the city, facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style with flowing hair swept back from the brow. The facial features are delicately modelled with a well-defined eye, straight nose, and slightly parted lips characteristic of late Classical Euboian engraving. The neck is bare and the hair is arranged in loose waves, consistent with the iconographic tradition of local nymph types on Chalkidian coinage of the fourth century BC. |
