Reverse description Two dolphins swimming in opposite directions, their sinuous bodies intertwined to create a dynamic circular composition in the field. The ethnic legend PAYKION is inscribed between the dolphins, identifying the issuing city of Rhaukos in Crete. The design fills the flan with characteristic Cretan maritime symbolism, the dolphins serving as attributes of Poseidon consistent with the obverse type. The strike is somewhat irregular, typical of hammered provincial Hellenistic coinage.
