Obverse description Eagle displayed to left, wings spread and raised, seizing a hare or serpent in its talons; the raptor is rendered in fine archaic relief with detailed feathering on the wings and body. The type is characteristic of the civic emblems of Akragas and reflects the high artistic standards of Sicilian die engraving of the late fifth century BC. A beaded border frames the composition along the right margin of the flan.
