Reverse description Facing gorgoneion depicted in high relief, filling the entire flan, rendered in the classic apotropaic style typical of late Classical Greek coinage. The Gorgon's face is shown full-face with wide staring eyes, prominent cheekbones, a broad flat nose, and a wide open mouth displaying bared teeth with the tongue protruding downward. Wavy hair radiates from the crown of the head, flanked by coiling serpentine forms at the temples and around the periphery of the design, emphasising the terrifying apotropaic character of the motif.
