Hemidrachm

Lakedaimon's coinage of this period reflects a city stripped of political relevance but clinging to civic identity. Sparta had been forcibly enrolled in the Achaean League by 192 BC and never fully recovered its autonomous standing. By the late second century, local bronze issues were common enough, but silver at this module is considerably scarcer — the hemidrachm denomination saw limited use in a regional economy increasingly dominated by Achaean federal coinage and, after 146 BC, Roman commercial priorities.
