| Description du revers | Facing Gorgoneion of archaic type rendered with bold, deeply cut features, displaying wide staring eyes with pellet pupils, a broad flat nose, and an open mouth with protruding tongue and prominent tusks. The head is framed by a writhing mass of snakes arranged in a circular border around the periphery of the flan, their bodies intertwined to form a continuous ring. The treatment of the Gorgon's hair and the surrounding serpents is characteristic of the skilled die-cutting tradition at Parion during the late Classical period. |
