| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing head of a bull rendered in bold high relief, the muzzle depicted frontally with pronounced nostrils and a downward-curving mouth, the forehead adorned with a wreath or fillet. The powerful, compact modelling of the bull's head is characteristic of the Phokian federal coinage of the fifth century BC, conveying the animal's strength through the deeply struck, sculptural die work. The surrounding field is plain, the flan irregular as is typical of hand-struck Greek silver coinage of this period. |
