Antioch of Pisidia was a Roman colony founded under Augustus and populated heavily with veterans of the legions — a status it wore conspicuously on its coinage for centuries. Under Severus Alexander, the city continued the colonial minting tradition that distinguished Pisidian Antioch from the surrounding provincial cities, issuing small bronzes that circulated locally in a region far removed from imperial mint supply chains.
The SNG Righetti specimen provides one of the few systematic reference points for this denomination from this reign; Pisidian colonial bronzes of this size are frequently underdocumented relative to their larger counterparts.
