| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Domitian facing right, draped at the shoulder, depicted in the style typical of provincial Roman coinage of Bithynia. The emperor's effigy is rendered in high relief with naturalistic portraiture consistent with Flavian artistic conventions. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ ΔΟΜΙΤΙΑΝΟΣ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ ΣΕΒ ΓΕΡ, identifying the emperor as Autocrator Domitian Caesar Augustus Germanicus, distributed around the field. |

Claudiopolis — modern Bolu in northwestern Turkey — held particular imperial favor during the Flavian period, partly due to the city's Bithynian prestige and its position along routes connecting the Pontic coast to the interior. The city minted bronze issues under Domitian with unusual consistency for a provincial center of its scale, suggesting a local magistracy actively cultivating the relationship with Rome during his reign.
RPC II 696 is attested in relatively few specimens across public collections.
